I read that using Olympus E510 with Hoya R72 IR Filter is a good combination for IR photography. As per this site Wrotniak.

Workflow as follows:
-Open RAW file in PS CS4.
-Desaturate.
-Adjust Contrast, Vibrance, Brightness, Exposure. (To Taste)
-Open Image in CS4.
-Luko's Sharpening.
-Add Vignette a little.
-Resized, Saved and uploaded.

Date: Typhoon Ondoy arrived on Sept 26, 2009.
Location Cambridge Village, Cainta, Rizal.

Woke up 3AM.
About to wake up the family to travel to Pampanga.
But it was still raining. Sleep overcame the desire to travel.
Then it was morning.
After having breakfast, we were monitoring the weather, it was now raining very hard.
News says that it will be like this all day.
Noticed the Rancho Verde (our little name to our view on the window) has now knee-deep high of water.

Before lunch was finish electricity died down. No news.
We watched in horror, water is rising inch after inch of height.

These pictures are the aftermath of the Typhoon Ondoy D2 to D3.

My son, Izaac, as he watched Rancho Verde's flood water.

People living in the roof of their houses. Waiting for help.

With the things or pets they can save.

People were looking for wood to be used for fire. Or maybe someting to eat.

Our Village parking lot. Submerged in water. The parking wall collapsed due to high current.

This vehicle, although already retired. Showed how deep is the water. On D1, this was totally submerged.

At last, help is on its way.

On Day 3, we decided to evacuate to Pampanga. Then monitor the news from there.

I grew up in Pampanga. Capital, San Fernando now a city. But recently I heard a news about a road widening project. They are cutting down that trees that are planted along the McArthur HiWay. This is their story...

This is the boundary of those murdered trees and the last remaining of their kind.

Concern Kabalens drew images of people and hearts to show them that they are like us.
They have the right to live.

This is how I remembered those trees.
Taken few kilometers from the clearing made by man's onslaught.

I am not familiar with the issues at hand.
I am just sadden by the lost of tree lives that was made just to give way to progress.

Maybe there's a better way. There is, always.

Currently, the cutting down stopped.
Maybe after the election, they will resume.
We just need to elect the ones that really care.

I was studying and practicing light set up under Ken Go(master photographer) back then.
We are five our group.
While the others are shooting using the strobe set up.
I was waiting for my turn.
She called my attention and poses.
She was getting ready for her turn.
I used the available light(window with blinds) to illuminate her with little light creating a 1:16 ratio showing drama.
Sorry, I can't seem to remember her name.

What is the Thirds Rule?

As stated in wikipedia for this rule:

The rule of thirds is a compositional rule of thumb in visual arts such as painting, photography and design. The rule states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections. Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would.

Applying the Rule of thirds:

I was busy looking for a subject when I saw a commotion. A mother was shouting furiously. His son was trying an adventure of his life. The wooden pathway was not in use. Very dangerous. He was busy. His mother waiting at the other end. Mad as hell. Uh-Oh. Lol

He was the son of our client in Cotonou, Benin, Africa. I notice he was working the boat. Seriously at work. I snapped away. High contrast due to the time of day. Sun too hot, the shadows too fierced. But all in all I liked it.

I was invited by friends to play Mafia Wars in Facebook. I was hesitant to obliged. Too complicated for me. But I was on a break while reviewing for my network certification exam. Now I can't stop checking the site for my character's health, stamina and energy growth to score the next hit. Uh-oh...

For the image above, he is Michael Gbedo, our friend in Isocel Telecom, Cotonou, Benin Africa, shot when I was deployed in Africa 2007-2008. HE is not a real crime godfather just a godfather with too many grandsons. The concept of the shot was a mobster. He pulled it well.

I had an EB with MATARAKI(Allan Opguar) and jpdijamco(JB Dijamco) of Treklens. They are based in Angeles City, Pampanga. We discussed Photography among other things. We then head to find subjects inside Clark to practice Photography. Street Photography in Action. or just by anything to practice composition.

We do stop every now and then, looking for a good scenic view or subjects(people or things) along the way.

We met Tatang (father) on a bridge resting. He said he was a retired photographer in his local town.

Of course I zoomed in.

When some people we're passing us. Tatang would tell them to pose for us.
I think she was the Grandmother.

We had to perform lighting experiment. We need to practice the setting of flashes-ala-strobist. The location was set. The participants were already tinkering with the camera settings. The batteries were already charged. Ready for the good old lighting session. When we went out for a street walk way before this one. We shoot anything. And anyone. Not minding if its blurred. Shooting every thinkable composition. Burning our CF cards with every click. Then over powering our CPU resources uploading. Just to delete most of it.

But this time. We were picky. Concentrating on the good subjects only. Conserving the limited spaces we got. Drive space is limited.

We get to mature once in a while.

Sunday Street Session

Time flies fast when you're having fun. It's slow when you're not.
We round up the TaongKalye guys for a Sunday Street Session.
The weather is right. The sky is cloudy for most parts. The streets with bearable traffic. And we're off. With me are Oggie Duque, Xavier Alcala and Wynn Diancin. Jet Ayala met us later. Starting point Ministop @ Hidalgo, Quiapo.

When we turned one corner.
We met him and his family all playing Cara y Cruz.
Gambling with coins. I wonder if he had his breakfast already.

I started taking pictures with a Film P&S. Started with 1 click. Had it developed with boring composition, and they are still. With family as my favorite subjects. Or only subject for that matter.

Then I was introduced to digital photography. Less capable 3 MP Canon P&S, when clicked showed more blurredness. Then Canon have it replaced (yep for FREE) with an A510 kickass swivel LCD.

I was then introduced to TrekLens. I was like shooting anything that moved. Trying every PP workflow. I was always critiqued and was eager to learn. Then I found out that B&W rocks.

I know we all have the same, or almost, story. We enjoyed family as models. We are so ecstatic to see them smile. And when we took a shot that was so unusual that they call it art as it is.

Kudos to them. I am in photography now because of them. =)

I have been lucky to have Oggie, aka Shogun in photography forums and sites, as a friend. His blog is one of the reason why I started one. He is one of my inspiration to continuously look for that spunk in Photography.

My Harley... like duh!

This was shot using a desk lamp overhead, casting a shadow on the bike's ground. The textured ground was the back of a tarpaulin. It was white. White is good.

Post processed using PS CS4.
Converted to Black and white.
Adjusted Levels to make white, whiter.
Increased contrast.
Sharpening using Luko's Sharpening method.
